ECR Travel Bursary

As part of the UK-ICN aims and objectives, we facilitate collaborative working and ECR career development activities through the provision of travel bursaries and ECR pump priming grants. ECR travel funding is available throughout the UK-ICN project (2021-2025) and can be used to fund travel and accommodation costs.

Funding Remit

Standard travel and accommodation support for the following activities:

  • Poster/oral presentation on coronavirus-related research at scientific meetings (£500 domestic or £1000 international travel)
  • Participation in laboratory exchanges to learn/share techniques skills (assessed on a case-by-case basis) – the laboratory exchange host must also be a UK-ICN member for these costs to be eligible
  • Participation in training workshops (assessed on a case-by-case basis) – the workshop must have a clear contribution to your work

UK-ICN ECR grants are designed to supplement existing funding and to sponsor a proportion of the associated costs. We are therefore unable to support the following:

  • Registration costs for meetings or workshops
  • Requests for research funding (e.g. reagents) are not eligible under this scheme
  • Premium travel options e.g., airport lounges, extra legroom, business or first class on any travel
  • Food or hospitality

Please note that applications must be received a minimum of one month prior to the event and payments will be made retrospectively in GBP (£). Full T&C in the application form below.

Candidate eligibility

  • Must be a member of the UK-ICN network
  • Student (undergraduate or postgraduate included), post-doctoral researcher (must be within 10 years of obtaining PhD; special consideration will be given to those who have taken a career-break) or research assistant/technician on a fixed term contract
  • Applicant must be not be employed on a permanent/tenured role
